Im Abendlicht

While in Salzburg this week, planning the editorial for the 2014 Whitsun and Summer Festivals, I meandered into the Dorotheum. For those of you who are not familiar with this incredible institution, the Dorotheum is the Austrian equivalent of Sotheby's or Christie's, albeit with a 'Galerie' service, where you can buy certain lots without entering an auction room or lots which have not sold or made their reserve. One of those is my new painting, 'Salzburg mit Festung im Abendlicht', showing the Mozartsstadt glowing in a rich sunset. The painting is by R. Gassner, an Austrian who was working during the second half of the 20th century. Other information about the artist is scant, so if anyone's heard of his or her work then I would love to hear from you. It's not a perfect picture, but I thought it a redolent one, with the slightly-oversized fortress perhaps idealising this glorious city, 'loved by God'. You can check out other lots currently available in the various branches of the Dorotheum by clicking here.
