Nelsons Bids Goodbye to Birmingham
When it was announced that Andris Nelsons was taking on the Boston Symphony Orchestra job, it seemed unlikely that he would be able to maintain his current level of commitment to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Today it was announced that, sadly, he won't and will leave Brum after the end of the 2014/15 season. The CBSO did well to bag Nelsons while they could, certainly judging on the strength of last week's concerts including Tchaikovsky's Manfred Symphony, performed back to back with Elektra at the Royal Opera House, but with Nelsons showing no signs of post-Mycenae fatigue. With more Richard Strauss scheduled at Symphony Hall, including a concert performance of Der Rosenkavalier, as well a whole raft of surprises for next season, there is still plenty of time to catch Nelsons in action here. Both he and his current orchestra are on cracking form. Click here for more information.
