Waltz's Rosenkavalier Coming to London

According to a tweet by the Royal Opera House's Director of Opera, Kasper Holten, Christoph Waltz's production of Der Rosenkavalier is coming to the ROH in December 2016. The De Vlaamse Opera production opens tonight in Antwerp, directed by the fittingly-named Waltz, who said that, 'I was born in Vienna, grew up in Vienna, went to school in Vienna, graduated in Vienna, studied in Vienna, started acting in Vienna – and there would be a few further Viennese links. How much more Austrian do you want it?' Sounds like a good choice for Rosenkavalier then. And it'll be good for London to have a fresher, more urgent take on Strauss's masterpiece, after years of the gorgeous, overstuffed John Schlesinger production at the ROH and David McVicar's beautiful but rather anodyne show for ENO. While we still have three years to wait until Waltz's Rosenkavalier arrives, no doubt this co-production will be seen in a few more cities before then.
